ASA print parameters — temperature, bed, cooling and drying

ASA is the material for parts that work outdoors — 110 °C of declared temperature resistance, a matt surface, a warping tendency rated medium (with ABS it is high) and a difficulty level of medium rather than hard. It does, however, require exactly what ABS requires: a closed 50 °C chamber.

An honest note about UV: in the FDM technical data table the manufacturer has no separate field for UV resistance, so you will not find a figure or a standards-backed claim for it here. We only report what is in the FDM parameter table. In the table ASA has the highest bed temperature range together with PA — 90–120 °C.

How to print ASA

A 50 °C chamber and a 90–120 °C bed

The hardware requirements here are tougher than for ABS: the lower bed limit is 90 °C, not 80 °C. In the printer-compatibility field the manufacturer writes printer with an enclosure, so an open frame is out. On large flat parts add a brim and avoid circulating air in the room.

Cooling 0–30%

A narrower range than for ABS (0–40%). The fan is off by default; switch it on only for short bridges. Excess cooling is a direct route to delamination — and on parts meant to work outdoors an interlayer crack is a critical defect, because that is where water gets in.

Drying 6–12 h at 40–60 °C

The same as ABS. Moisture resistance is rated low. Damp ASA gives a matt, porous surface and worsens an already awkward layer bond.

Solubility: the manufacturer does not name a solvent

In the solubility field the table gives ASA a value of low, but — unlike ABS (acetone) and HIPS (D-limonene) — with no solvent named. We are not filling that in on the manufacturer's behalf. It rates post-processing as easy.

Bambu AMS: Not recommended

The manufacturer does not mark ASA as incompatible, merely advises against it. It gives no justification; in practice the material needs a closed 50 °C chamber anyway, and the AMS is usually mounted outside the heated enclosure.

Speed and detail

Print speed: high. Detail resolution: 0.2 mm and above. Support removal: easy. Abrasiveness: none, so an ordinary brass nozzle is enough.
